Over the years, I have had so many different job charts for the kids. I will make a new one and it will work for only a few weeks and then the kids or I will get tired of doing it. Some have worked better then others. Since we have moved back to Utah, I made a new chart, and it barely worked for 1 week. Then I was talking to a friend and she had come up with this great one, (which I've kinda done before, but her version was a ton better). So here it is. It has been working for a few weeks and is still going pretty good. I'm hoping it will last for a long time.
*First, I scanned, colored and printed out some money.
*Then, I found a little box I could call the bank.
*I came up with chores and how much the kids would earn by doing the chores.
*I bought a bunch of stuff for my store. Everything from bubbles to shirts, and a ton of stuff in between. I add to my store all the time. I have a big bin of store items.
*I am the banker, the boss, and the store owner.
*The kids work for money. I pay them every night, or every other night. I make sure I write down what they have earned, so I don't forget through out the day.
*They have an envelope, which is their bank account. After I pay them, they put the envelope back in the bank so they don't loose it.
*I open the store once a week, and they get to buy whatever they want.
*I also charge them 10 times more for the item then what I bought it for. I change it around for what works out best. Some things I don't charge 10 times as much. But if I know they really want an item, then for sure I will charge them for it.
*Just before I give them there last pay check before opening the store, I remind them to pay tithing. They didn't like that the first time, but they are getting use to it. I think that it is a great lesson.

The first time, Korban threw a huge fit. He wanted a toy that he didn't have enough money for, but he finally agreed on something else. The second time the store opened, I made sure there was a toy he could afford, that he would really want. So it went a lot smoother.
Another time, when Mishae babysat, I gave her a little sweater that was in the store instead of giving her real money.
It's also a great way to get them to do little extras. I will tell them I will give them 5 dollars if they do "this" or "that"!
It's been a really good system. I recommend trying it, if you are looking for a good way to get your kids to work.
Bonus: I always have presents when I need them for birthday parties.

what an amazing idea. I LOVE it! How do you figure out how much to give them for each task???? this is a great idea!
5 points for having their rooms clean, (all the way)!
5 points for the daily job I assign them.
1 to 5 points for odd jobs I ask them to do in the day. Depends on how hard it is. I'm still figuring it out as I go.
That is a great idea. I am totally using! It reminds me of a funny story: my friend and her 7 siblings would get an allowance every week for doing chores and her oldest brother would secretly have a store...there was a name for it but I can't remember. He would sell them his junk, just whatever he had lying around, collecting their allowances in the process. Isn't that funny...and a good idea?
